Bronx Charter School for the Arts
Artist-in-Residence Program
Bronx Charter School for the Arts is a South Bronx-based public elementary school founded upon the belief that arts education is a catalyst for a student's academic and social success. Bronx Arts students practice dance, music, theater and visual arts through daily classes with arts specialists; explore the cultural significance of the arts; and use art as a language to express their ideas. The Artist-in-Residence Program:
- Creates direct collaboration between students, teaching artists, and teachers.
- Creates opportunities for exhibition of student work; and family involvement in arts education.
- Increases professional development for teachers by demonstrating how to successfully integrate the arts into the curriculum.
"Innovative programming that integrates the arts into daily classroom instruction."
"Wide-awakeness must infuse the democratic curriculum if it is to move towards participatory appreciation, action, and the inauguration of new beginnings."
